Years 7 - 9Middle Education

We provide a dynamic and challenging Middle Years program for students, which focuses on academic excellence, personal growth, and spiritual development to prepare our students for the next stage of their education.

Holistic Learning & Transition

Students in Years 7-9 at St Joseph’s engage in an exciting and challenging learning program, that implements the Australian Curriculum. This curriculum is designed to enable students to be active and engaged learners, with a focus on understanding themselves, their community, and their world.

Our commitment extends beyond academics. All students in the Middle School participate in a structured Pastoral Care program. This program focuses on various aspects of student development, including study skills, Keeping Safe: Child Protection curriculum, cyber safety, mental health awareness, personal resilience, and career development.

Year 7 students are supported in their transition to secondary schooling through a maintained core group of teachers. The transitional phase exposes students to a wider range of subjects and specialist learning areas. As students progress through Years 7-9, a defined middle school identity is established through programs tailored to meet the needs of adolescents. The culmination of this journey is marked by the acclaimed Rite Journey Program in Year 9, enriching their educational experience.

Core Subjects, Electives & Integrated Technology

St Joseph’s ensures a comprehensive curriculum for students in these years, covering the “core” subjects of Religious Education, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences (HaSS), English, Languages, and Health and Physical Education within their care-group, fostering a supportive learning environment.

In addition to the core subjects, students explore elective subjects such as Visual Art, Drama, Design and Technology, Digital Technology, CAD|CAM|3D printing, Food Technology, and Music, enriching their education with a diverse range of experiences.

Furthermore, from Year 7 to Year 9, students are provided with a school laptop, actively developing their skills and understanding in ICT. This integration ensures technologies are used engagingly and effectively to support learning. In Year 9, students can further tailor their education by choosing Languages as an elective, along with the ApPLe course, offering a personalized learning pathway.

Enriching LearningExperiences

Extracurricular & Leadership Opportunities

At St Joseph’s, our commitment to education extends beyond academic learning. Students actively participate in various extracurricular and leadership opportunities, shaping a well-rounded educational experience.

In Year 7, students embark on a unique journey as they receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, contributing to their spiritual growth.

Led by Year 7 SRC Leaders and Sports Captains, students engage in a diverse range of activities, fostering inclusivity. From sports teams and regional events to a 9-a-side football carnival, school team sailing, and community service, these experiences not only enhance physical well-being but also instill teamwork and sportsmanship. Each opportunity ensures students develop personal skills across various areas, contributing to their holistic development.

Beyond the Classroom

Beyond St Joseph’s academic program, students embark on a range of excursions to enrich their learning. Recent local trips to Tod River, Whalers Way, Poonindie, Sleaford Bay, and our local foreshore offer firsthand experiences of places of interest.

Complementing these excursions are co-curricular and extra-curricular activities integral to our holistic approach. Year 7 students partake in an adventurous camp to Errappa and Melrose, fostering camaraderie and growth. Year 8 students engage in local camps at the foreshore and Nyroca, along with Christian Outreach activities. Year 9 students undertake a bushwalking experience in the Lincoln National Park, honing basic survival skills.
